mark your calendars

status check - optimistic
background ambiance - same

ok kids. i'm cali-bound come february. while it's all winter wonder-lousy here, i'll be getting a short sun-soaked break while listening to music, laughing and enjoying a drink at java joes.

now i have to figure out how the hell do pull it off. but regardless. i'm going to make the vacation visit work.

oooh boy, i wrote a whole long thing about this kind of situation for dianne, back during media law. this one touches a nerve!

a good thing most of what i listen to these days are live shows by cool people who encourage trading. this whole lawsuit/prison time thing is frustrating. yes, i understand where they're coming from. yes, i could see where metallica was coming from when i was booted off napster (temporarily, might i add - viva la revolution!) but if you're a truly good musician, you'll be able to recover from any loss of revenue from internet because you PERFORM WELL LIVE. "you can burn a show, but you can't burn the experience of being there," as mayer so appropriately put it (pre-sucking, that is).

and anyway, i maintain that i'm more likely to buy an album if i can hear a song or two off it and, therefore, know i'll like it. if i go into the cd-purchasing experience cold, i'll often pass by what could have been a great listening experience. if people want to encourage people to buy cds, don't ban online swapping - lower cd prices.

ok, i'm stepping off my soapbox now. thanks for the link!
